Chloe Sparrow Lesley CreweBe careful what you wish for. That little phrase guides 25 year-old Chloe Sparrow through her daily life as she tries to avoid creating any more chaos than necessary. In this whimsical, delightful novel by Cape Breton’s prolific Lesley Crewe, our heroine believes she has wished her parents into an early grave, wished her (female) cat Norton into existence, and wished herself into the producer’s chair of a new reality TV show on the CBC. Plucky orphan that she is, Chloe finds true love on the set, though not before a series of trials and tribulations as she comes to terms with her past and grows up (a lot).

Think Shopaholic meets Bridget Jones (with a solid dose of Canadian humour). I can already see the movie adaptation: Ellen Page as Chloe with Gordon Pinsent as her crusty Gramps and Mary Walsh as her kooky Aunt Ollie – a sure-fire winner.
