Adrian Payne will be reading from Life on the Great Northern Peninsula and Antony Berger will be reading from The Good and Beautiful Bay on Sunday, August 20, at 4 pm at Galliott Studios (10 Water Street, Bonne Bay, NL), as part of Writers at Woody Point. Everyone is welcome!
Life on the Great Northern Peninsula is Adrian Payne’s memoir, beginning in 1940, with his early childhood in Parson’s Pond, Hawke’s Bay, and Cow Head, then following him through his early years in the lumber woods, hunting moose in the wild north, and adventures on the Long Range Mountains. Adrian’s story continues with his years spent working several jobs in Toronto, before moving back to Cow Head to work in the fishery. Told anecdotally, this charming memoir illustrates a life well-lived on the Great Northern Peninsula.
The Good and Beautiful Bay reviews the history of Bonne Bay before Confederation in 1949. It describes the people that came to live here, with glimpses of some of the main characters, the way of life, and the influences of church and school. The book ends with the story of how Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, came to be.
