An Intro to Social Media for Writers

February 22 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

An Intro to Social Media for Writers – a WFNS professional development session.

It is a fact universally acknowledged that social media are easy to use but difficult to use well.

This two-hour session led by Andy Verboom will (re-)introduce you to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram as platforms for promoting your work and networking with readers, publishers, and other writers. Because your social media accounts can be your first chance to impress, we’ll cover social media etiquette, online community-building, best practices for linking and image use, and increasing the impact (reach & engagement) of your posts. Most importantly, this session will get you thinking of social media as specific genres—with their own conventions, themes, and reader expectations—so you can start writing posts with greater purpose.

About the instructor: Andy Verboom is the founder of Couplets (a lit & art collaboration series) and co-founder of long con (an online magazine for art about art). His poetry has won Frog Hollow’s Chapbook Contest and Descant’s Winston Collins Prize, been shortlisted for CV2’s Young Buck Prize and Arc’s Poem of the Year, and appeared in Prism, The Puritan, Vallum, and elsewhere. His sixth poetry chapbook will be DBL (knife | fork | book, 2020). Andy is a freelance editor, a communications instructor, and the Communications Officer at the Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia.

Register through the Writers’ Fed of NS website. Space is limited.
